Spectators are invited to bring family and friends to the V&A Waterfront for a fun-filled morning packed with friendly yet fierce competition on Saturday 26 November 2011. The first-ever “African” version of the Oxford-Cambridge boat race will see the Oxford and Cambridge publishing houses take up their paddles to raise funds for reading.
The day kicks off with a fun charity race which will see key educational stakeholders such as Donald Grant take their places in two dragon boats in their bid to “Paddle for Reading”.
The publishing houses will then gear up to go paddle-to-paddle in the tradition of the Oxford-Cambridge Boat Race, the major international sporting occasion drawing millions of viewers from around the world.
The starting point is at the Two Oceans Aquarium and the race will finish off at the Cape Grace Hotel. An SMS line has been created and all proceeds generated will go to the Shine Centre, a non-profit organisation that provides support in literacy and language enrichment to children.
To donate R10, which will be used to purchase reading books for The Shine Centre’s literacy programme, including the new Shine Book Buddies project, SMS the word SHINE to 38270. SMS lines are open from 16 November to 16 December 2011. Free SMS do not apply. Terms and Conditions apply……
